Accession Negotiations, the Appeal Chamber reports on the vetting in Albania: aiming for the timely conclusion of the vetting process
Ms. Albana Shtylla, President of the Appeal Chamber, representatives of the Independent Qualification Commission and of the institution of Public Commissioners participated in the EU – Albania bilateral meeting held in Brussels, in the framework of the launch of the screening process of the accession negotiations on Chapter 23.
The representative of the Appeal Chamber presented the report drafted by the three vetting institutions, bringing a clear overview in figures regarding the so far decision-making, the main components of the process, the transparency, the budgeting, as well as the expectations to conclude all vetting cases within the time limits provided by the law: the Independent Qualification Commission by December 2024, and the Appeal Chamber by June 2026. This presentation highlighted the importance of quality in decision-making, strict compliance with the law, with the principles of the fair trial, the equality, objectivity and proportionality.
The negotiations between the European Union and Albania for Chapter 23 “Judiciary and fundamental rights” continue today in Brussels with the reporting of the other justice institutions. The Albanian delegation is headed by the chief negotiator, Ms. Majlinda Dhuka, as well as by the Deputy Minister of Justice, Ms. Adea Pirdeni, in the capacity of negotiator for the respective chapter.
